Have you ever heard the phrase, “Do not try to be a Jack of all trades?” I understand this phrase to a certain point. Many people say that you shouldn’t try to sell too many services just focus on one and market it alone. Well I am sorry, I have more than one flavor and I do not necessarily want to only capture weddings. If one has the ability to tell stories well, why not tell the stories that are outside the wedding realm? Just because you shoot weddings does not mean that this is the only type of event or project you have to shoot. Take a chance and shoot other events, or other promotional pieces. I am a strong believer in versatility and if you have the gift to produce other videos then go ahead and do it. In shooting other types of videos, you may come across really different ideas that you could implement in your wedding stories. By shooting an assortment of videos you can also learn different ways to tell different stories…this can only lead you to become a better storyteller. So next time you hear that all you should be focusing on is weddings…ask yourself if you could benefit from shooting other types of videos.
